The UC Davis Department of Anthropology Museum Education Outreach Program
The UC Davis Department of Anthropology Museum curates collections of archaeological, ethnographic, biological, and archival materials and maintains a teaching collection that includes casts and reproductions of artifacts from a variety of prehistoric human groups. Though most collections are not on public display and are available only for research, the teaching collection is accessible through outreach events.
The Museum Outreach Program provides presentations on a variety of anthropological topics. We participate in events during UC Davis Picnic Day and Archaeology Month as well as offer group presentations upon request. We would especially like to invite elementary and high school students in the greater Sacramento area to visit the department for an introduction to anthropology and a private viewing of related collections. For larger groups of students, we may be able to visit your campus with more resilient portions of our collection.
Presentations can be selected from a list of topics or can be specially tailored to suit the interests of visiting groups. Outreach presentations provide an excellent way for teachers to enrich instruction of 4th grade social studies (e.g. "Californian Prehistory") and 7th grade science (e.g. "Human Evolution" or "Microevolution") curricula. UCD Anthropology graduate students design and facilitate all presentations and are happy to include a discussion of their own research and career path. We also welcome community college groups for a discussion of career paths and educational opportunities in anthropology.
Please visit our scheduling form to request a presentation. Visiting classes may also be interested in booking visits to the Mondavi Center or other UC Davis departments through visit/ucdavis.edu/tourreg/groupTours/.
The outreach program is run by the graduate students of the UC Davis Department of Anthropology. You can contact them at email@example.com for correspondence concerning the outreach program.
